So, 'Who Am I?', You Ask
by Richard D. Solomon, Ph.D.

I collect money, but I'm not a banker.
I pick up papers from the floor, but I'm not a janitor.
I give youngsters food and money, but I am not a philanthropist.
I play ball with kids, but I'm not an athlete.
I feed and nourish the self-esteem of my children, but I'm not their mother or father.
I discipline youngsters, but I'm not a police officer.
I lead youth, but I'm not a youth leader.
I parent children, but I'm not their parent.
I preach right from wrong, but I'm not a preacher.
I care for sick children, but I'm not a doctor.
I settle disputes and resolve conflict, but I'm not a judge.
I refer children to social services, but I'm not a social worker.
I listen to and council my clients, but I'm not a therapist.
I create excitement where there is silence, but I'm not a magician.
I ask why and how, but I'm not a scientist.
I write, and write and write some more, but I'm not a writer.
I read, and read, and read some more, but I'm not an editor.
I stretch minds, but I'm not a philosopher or a psychologist.
I instill a love for the past, but I'm not a historian.
I encourage my children to reach for the stars, but I'm not an astronomer.
So, "who am I?' you ask. I am proud to be a TEACHER!
