Candy Cane Sales

During the month before Christmas, have members sell candy canes for $1.00 each to friends, teachers and family members. The buyers can send a personal message with the candy cane by choosing a ribbon color to suit their preferences. Green means, "I want to know you better." Red means, "I love you." White indicates "Friendship." The sale lasts one week. Members write the messages on the tags and attach them to the candy canes with the ribbon. Deliver these during the last day of school before Christmas vacation. To add a new twist, charge the recipient of the candy cane a fee to find out who sent it!

Christmas Ball

This event is usually held on a Saturday two weeks prior to Christmas. It is a couple's dance similar to the Prom but with a Christmas setting. Tickets are sold for $10.00 per couple and $6.00 per single. Start with a theme such as "Winter Wonderland" or "Mistletoe Magic." It is helpful to look through catalogs for ideas. Provide refreshments to accommodate the guests. Ask each member to donate one dozen cookies. Make punch the morning of the event. Begin decorating right after school on the day prior to the event. Additional decorating will need to take place on Saturday morning before the Ball.
Chaperones will be needed. Sell the tickets two weeks before the event. Record the students' names as they purchase tickets, so an ornament can be made for each student in attendance.

Cost: $1,000-$1,300

Helpful Hints: Start at least three months before the event. Set up sub-committees for decorations, refreshments, clean up, etc. Solicit a lot of help from students, parents and teachers. Remain organized throughout the experience.

Donkey Basketball

This hilarious fundraiser is simply a basketball game played while riding donkeys. Many variations can be done with class versus class or students versus faculty. Promote it community-wide as a fun family event and charge admission. A variation uses ticket sales to determine who the student riders are. The top ten salespeople get to ride and play in the game. Ask male and female faculty members to be cheerleaders and provide half time activities.

Helpful Hints: Be certain to use a reputable Donkey Basketball Company with experience and insurance. Administration will be expected to sign a contract under which all terms of insurance, rules, etc. are outlined for the game.

May Madness

Our school has a basketball tournament in May every year. In each of the three grades, students are asked to make teams within their homerooms. Then they are assigned a day to play in a round robin tournament. If the students in the homerooms want to watch they pay 25 cents. It ends up to be a real motivation experience for the end of the school year. Ask 2 teachers to officiate the games. The profits gained from this are used to help a needy family within our school. Last year we helped a woman who contracted a strep infection within her bloodstream. It is a real great follow up to the March Madness Basketball Tournaments.

Volleyball Tournament

The annual volleyball tournament is held each year on the last Saturday in April. All teams arrive by 8:00 AM for final tournament instructions. Try to have at least two nets set up or it will take a long time for the tournament. The number of teams can vary (the average is about eight). This tournament is for students only and is co-ed. There must be four boys and four girls on each team. Set the registration deadline for one month before the tournament. Students select their own team members. Each student pays $5.00 to play, $40.00 per team. Each winning team member receives a championship T-shirt.

Each team plays two games to 11 points against each other team in its division. The total points are recorded and the two teams with the top point totals from each division make the semi-finals. The semi-finals are best of three games to 11 points. The championship match is played best of three to 15 points. Students not playing officiate the game. Use your most knowledgeable students to officiate the semi-final and final rounds. The tournament should be over at about 2:00 PM.

Non-traditional Car Wash

A traditional car wash can raise money every time you hold one. Usually uning a nearby business as the parking lot and water supply works well for that. However, giving anything a little twist will increase the income. We advertise our car washes as a "Topless Car Wash," which attracts many customers. The real meaning is that we will wash all but the roof for maybe $2, or the entire car for $3. This means $2 gets you a topless wash, or $3 gets you the real deal. It is a great way to bring in the customers. also advertising with face paint and signs along highways will attract meny people.

Charity Chains

This is a great way to raise money, we did it for a charity though. You put one jar in a room for each grade. The jars are used to collect monetary contributions. For every $.10 we awarded one link in a chain. Each link is a strip of paper cut out and then the ends are stapled forming a circle. Each grade must have a seperate color, so that when you hang the chains they can see what grade is winning. It is a great way to make money and the competition level is usually real high.
